How Do We Get a Reprocessed ISIR After the Student Corrects Their Social Security Number For a Paper FAFSA?

KA-37132 Helpfulness Rating 1,288 page views

This guidance is not award-year-specific and applies across award years.

Scenario: The student put the wrong Social Security Number (SSN) on his paper FAFSA. He has since submitted a correction, and the correct SSN is now visible on the FAFSA. However, the FAFSA Processing System (FPS) has not rerun the database match with the Social Security Administration (SSA). The Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) still contains a reject code (006 in this scenario).

Answer: NASFAA has learned that the FPS Help Desk provides this instruction:

  1. Go to the FAFSA Partner Portal (FPP);
  2. Pull up the last ISIR transaction using the magnifying glass icon;
  3. Click make a correction;
  4. Click FAA Information;
  5. Select the last dropdown option (resend Record to Matches) and select "Yes;" and
  6. Allow a few days for the reprocessed ISIR.

It has come to NASFAA's attention that calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC) and asking them to manually sync the FAFSA data with the SSA does not work as instructed.

If the above steps do not work, the financial aid administrator should reach out to the FPS Help Desk at 1-800-330-5947 or by email at [email protected]. ED will need student-specific details that cannot be provided to NASFAA.
